In this article, eLearning Partners share three main steps to onboard employees remotely via eLearning. 

Step #1. Start With a Virtual Meeting

Before your team starts to onboard remotely, you should have a virtual meeting. This meeting should be about a half-hour to an hour and cover three important things. 

Walk Through the Login Process

To start, you must ensure that your team can log into your eLearning platform. Walk them through the process and have them do it in the meeting. This eliminates any basic issues. 

Go Through the eLearning Roadmap 

You also need to go through the eLearning roadmap during the meeting. This gives your team an idea of what to expect so that they can prepare. For example, mention what courses they will be taking. 

Explain the Vision, Mission, and Core Values of Your Company 

Finally, explain your company’s core values, mission, and vision. Explain why you have these values and missions. This will help motivate them to complete the training, as they will understand the importance of it. 

Step #2. Continuously Market to Your Employees

It’s a common misconception that you don’t have to market your course to employees. In reality, however, it’s more important to market to employees than it would be for an external course. That’s because you need the high engagement rates that come with successful marketing. Without effective marketing, your engagement rates will tank and do so quickly. 

Email Sequence

One great method of marketing your eLearning training is via email. Ideally, you want to email employees three to five times every week. These emails don’t have to be long, but they should be consistent. 

Use the emails to highlight the biggest challenges that your employees likely have and how the eLearning course will solve them. Include a CTA to log into the program. This is part of creating a habit of turning to the course for any questions while they onboard remotely. 

Internal Communication Channel 

Take the same content from the emails and include it in your team’s internal communication. Whether this is Microsoft Teams, Slack, or something else, include it there. 

Step #3. Have Virtual Check-in Meetings

The third step is having more virtual meetings to check your team’s progress. Importantly, these should be employee-led, as that maximizes engagement. The employees will say what they’re doing well and where they are struggling. Encourage them to share areas they struggle with, both with the eLearning process and material. 

Of course, the meeting also allows you to answer any questions your employees have. But don’t just wait for your employees to mention questions. Be proactive and ask probing questions. You want to ensure that your new employees resolve their issues via the eLearning program.
