Time To Get Serious About Sweaters!

As cooler weather kicks in, the great jumper debate is back.

Is a roll neck ever sexy? Can a cardigan be cool? Are chunky knits flattering? All questions that get asked every year as winter descends.

Want to know the answers? Then read on as we get up close and personal with this year’s hottest knitwear trends.

2022 jumpers and knitwear

Go big or go home

The oversized look has been popular all year and remains a key trend as we move into autumn/winter wardrobes.

Oversized sweaters and cardigans are not only super comfy to wear, they also up the style stakes and take the snuggle factor to the next level.

Cable knits

Bored of simple sweaters but not keen on too much colour or jazzy patterns? Then how about a cable knit?

Adding interest and texture to even the most basic jumper they’re an easy way to liven up your look.

Ribs

Sticking with the theme of texture, ribs are big news for winter 22. Not only do they work well for jumpers, but they are also great for adding detail to lightweight cardigans.

Big softie

Nothing says cosy quite like a fluffy jumper, putting plush sweaters at the top of the wish list for shoppers this autumn. Tactile, feminine, and oh-so snuggly these are a firm fashion favourite.

Thin roll necks

Opt for a thin roll neck and you’ll find yourself effortlessly working a more sophisticated jumper look. Perfect for office wear, pair with tailored trousers or even tuck into a skirt.

A thin roll neck can also work for a night on the town. Great when you don’t want to feel the chill (or take a coat).

The fitted cardigan

Wondering if cardigans are fashionable? The answer is, yes!

The humble cardie may be the brunt of granny jokes but it’s still a wardrobe staple for the under 80s too.

If you don’t already own one, you need to get shopping! Great for keeping options open – layering up, throwing over evening dresses and taking you from day to night.

This year’s cardigan trends are the two extremes. Go short and fitted, a great look with a high-waisted skirt. Or go long. Try a full or calf-length cardigan worn with slouchy jeans for a casual yet chic look.

What is the most flattering sweater style?

Finding the right sweater shape for you is mostly about trial and error. You may need to try a few different styles before you find your perfect fit.

Generally speaking, if you have a round face and a shorter neck, a relaxed cowl neck will be more flattering than a tight-fitting roll neck.

Similarly, a chunky knit can add unwanted bulk to a fuller figure.

Whatever cut you go for though, be sure to pick a colour that suits your skin tone. A shade that brings out your natural colouring and doesn’t drain your complexion is important.
