The V8 coupe by the British manufacturer Aston Martin has been offered an upgrade inspired by F1 which includes more power, a retuned chassis and 200 kg of extra downforce. This is the 2021 Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition which is recently uncovered, ahead of its Australian launch in the fourth quarter of the year.
As seen in the teaser of last week, the vehicle is actually a road-going version of the newest Aston Martin Vantage based 2021 Formula One safety car. This is a limited run, special edition model which is actually a celebration of marque’s return to Formula One and is reviewed by CarSwitch where you can get used cars for sale.
Power and speed
The model is actually a revised version of the ‘standard’ Vantage twin turbocharged V8 4 liter engine which delivers 685 Nm of torque and 393 kW. These specs are in accordance with the race-bound safety car but still 18 kW more than the regular road car.
It’s highest torque figure given is across a bigger part of the rev range to boot. The drive is sent to the rear wheels via a revised, faster shifting 8-speed automatic transmission which allows 0 to 100 km per hour race to be covered in only 3.6 and 3.7 seconds for the coupe and Roadster respectively.
This 8-speed automatic transmission is optimized for providing quicker shifts and a powerful feel. The top speeds are rated at 314 km per hour and 305 km per hour for the fixed roof and soft top body dimensions respectively.
All of this is not a surprise since the vehicle is the brand’s most concentrated and fastest version of its V8 sports car. According to Aston Martin, the tweaking of the powertrain is noticeable under all conditions. However, they are more advantageous on track use because they improve the sense of control especially in the heavy braking and on the limits of traction.
Chassis adjustments and wheels
As for the changes in the present 375 kW Vantage, they are mostly chassis tweaks. For instance, a higher rear spring rates for better body control in high speed compressions and crests. A suspension with new damper internals, extra chassis stiffening and sharper steering rack for a reinforced feel are also given.
The front side has been stiffened and the steering system is retuned to amplify feedback. In the arches, the latest 21 inches alloy wheels are added which are 1 inch bigger than the ones seen as standard to the mainstream Vantage.
These wheels are covered in 255/35 front and 295/30 rear Pirelli P Zero tires along with a set of 400 mm front and 360 mm ventilated disc brakes given behind. The 21 inches of alloy wheels are a replacement for the standard 20s, twill carbon fiber and quad exhaust details.
Aerodynamics and color options
Going along with the chassis tweaks is the brand new aerodynamics package which consists of an extra 200 kg of downforce at high speeds all thanks to the fixed rear spoiler, underbody turning vanes, front dive planes and deeper front splitter.
When it comes to uplifting the front, some of the standard aesthetic revisions are the carbon fiber accents, a ‘vaned’ grille design and F1 Edition specific graphics. The buyers have the choice to select from the gloss exterior paint and satin colors which include the brand new Aston Martin Racing Green shade inspired by the automaker’s Formula One racer.
Looking in the interior, there is an Obsidian Black leather upholstery and Phantom Grey Alcantara trim feature. These are paired with the contrasting colors of choice of Spicy Red, Lime Green, Obsidian Black or Wolf Grey.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of Aston Martin, Tobias Moers expressed: “Performance is at the heart of every Aston Martin, but when it wears an F1 badge it has to be a truly exceptional car. Vantage was already the most focused sports car in our range but in the development of our official safety car of Formula 1, it had to be a true athlete: more powerful; more agile; more immediate and more exciting to drive. And- of course- quicker and more capable in a race-track environment.”
The deliveries of the 2021 Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition will be initiated in the UK in May 2021. As for the starting price, it will be from £142,000. The Australian unveiling is guaranteed by the fourth quarter of the year which will shortly bring the announcement of local pricing as well.
