  1. You Should Be Willing to Ask for Support

Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your friends and family before you leave, and also after! Most students forget that even though they are far away they can still ask their people for help. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help from those on campus. There are going to be so many people willing to help you, that you should never feel alone or burdened. They will want to see you succeed, and will have your back! You just have to ask. They will love to learn more about where you are from, the different traditions that you have, and why it was you chose to study in the US. So, don’t be afraid to share!

  1. Have an Open Mind

Going into a new place and school with an open mind will really change how much fun and success you have. It will allow you to be open to change and you will flourish to reach your fullest potential. Your natural instinct will be to close off and keep to yourself when in a new place, but we recommend breaking out of that shell, and opening your mind! You will be glad you did.

  1. Study the Area You Are Going To

Once you know what school you are going to be heading to, research the area. See what food shops and stores are nearby. Use the street view on Google Maps, that way you have already seen what your new home looks like! This will help you to be more familiar with it and feel more comfortable once you are there in person.

  1. Let Yourself Have Fun

Though the main reason you are there is because of school, know that you are allowed to have fun too! Go to new club meetings, start a new hobby, and explore life in the new city. There is so much fun to be had, you just have to be willing to let yourself find it!

  1. It Will Be Different Than Home

We know this one is obvious, but it is important to be reminded of the fact that you will be a little out of your element. You will be far from home, and the traditions you know, but that isn’t a bad thing. The new changes will bring about moments for you to grow and evolve, making it so you’re a new version of yourself when you go back home!

Though we didn’t cover everything you will encounter on this new venture, know that as long as you put all your efforts into it, you are bound to be successful!
